From the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have lots of good news this week. I hope you have already seen the news on our website about the letter we have received from the Education Secretary, the Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson, who has congratulated us on our outstanding examination results once again. You can read the letter by scrolling down.

As we are so well known for supporting students with strong inclusion, we have been asked to share our excellent practice by opening up our doors to welcome other education professionals through the DfE RISE network.  This is another honour, as it is only a select number of schools who have been asked to do this. If you know any education professionals who may be interested in visiting us during this 'open fortnight' then please share details and information on how to book on our website at this link.

Finally, we have just received the Wellbeing Award for Schools for all of our excellent work in supporting the wellbeing of our students and our staff.

Thank you for all of your support, because it is our staff, our students and our families who all make Greenford such a special place!

Mrs M Pye

Headteacher

Stop Press – The Education Secretary has written to us!

Dear Ms Pye

Congratulations to you and your team on the excellent outcomes the disadvantaged pupils at Greenford High School achieved at the end of the 2024/25 academic year. Your school’s performance places it among the very best nationally, and this is a significant achievement.

This success reflects the dedication of your staff and the hard work of your pupils. It shows what can be achieved when ambition and commitment come together. Thank you for everything you do to give children the best possible opportunities to succeed.

Your school’s achievements demonstrate what is possible, and I hope you will continue to share your experience and best practice with others. Even the strongest schools can go further. We encourage you to lead the way as a system leader – sharing effective practice, championing networks, supporting collaboration, and helping raise standards across the sector.

Please pass on my thanks and congratulations to your staff and pupils. I look forward to working with you as we strive together to raise standards for all.

Bridget Phillipson

Secretary of State for Education

Personal Development at Greenford High School

Personal Development (PD) in schools helps students gain the knowledge, skills, and understanding to lead healthy, safe, and independent lives while becoming responsible citizens. It focusses on the whole child, developing character, emotional intelligence, resilience, and abilities like teamwork and communication, with a strong emphasis on promoting wellbeing, understanding diversity, and preparing students for their future in society.

Key Aspects of Personal Development

  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Safety
  • Social Skills
  • Citizenship
  • Understanding the Wider World
  • Character and Values
  • Future Preparedness

How has GHS implemented personal development?

Personal development is delivered through a whole-school approach that incorporates both formal and informal learning opportunities.

  • Curriculum: Aspects of personal development are integrated into regular lessons, such as PHSCE, science, and computing (online safety).
  • Extracurricular activities: Clubs, sports, music, and residential trips provide opportunities for students to develop talents, interests, and social skills.
  • Assemblies and special events: These can be used to raise awareness and reinforce key topics like British values and mental health.
  • Student leadership: Opportunities like a school council or prefect system help students develop responsibility and teamwork.
  • Pastoral support: Schools provide high-quality pastoral care to ensure students feel supported and can navigate life's challenges with confidence.
  • Careers: Career fairs and Work Experience for year 10s

Year 11 Careers Fair

As part of our Careers Programme, Year 11s took part in the Careers Fair where they got to speak to over 25 experts from industry, Further Educational Colleges and universities.

Our visitors were very impressed with how the students conducted themselves and how prepared they were for their next steps in their journey.

Another proud moment for GHS.

Well done to Ms Rodway and the Careers team who organised this event.

Year 8 Are Off to University!

As part of our work with Aim Higher London, 30 Year 8 students went to visit the University of West London.

This gave learners an understanding of university, including student life.

Our students got to experience:

  • Interactive workshop on what happens during a blood transfusion!
  • The chance to talk to Student Ambassadors
  • A tour of this vibrant, modern campus

Our business and economics students in year 12 took part in a workshop led by BlackRock where they learnt about the finance industry and pathways into this. Students were all engaged and had the opportunity to ask questions.

Mari Parry (BlackRock presenter) held an interactive Groundbreaker session for our students.

This initiative aims to help students make well-informed choices about their education and careers, giving them direct exposure to financial services and valuable insights. It provides guidance on university and apprenticeship pathways, both at BlackRock and throughout the industry.

The session concluded with a lively Q&A session, making sure everyone’s questions were answered. Thank you to all the enthusiastic students who took part!

Looking for something for your child to try?
