From the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

It's incredible to believe we are almost at the end of term!

Well done to almost all of our Year 10s who have been out on work experience - a phenomenal achievement with such a large year group.  Thank you to all of the parents who supported with placements and also with simply ensuring that their children got up and out in the morning!

We continue with our usual end of term activiities including trips and visits, sports day and end term assemblies, and will finish term on Tuesday 22nd July. More details on the exact finish time will be sent next week.

Thank you once again for your support in what has been another exceptional year.

Greenford High School Sports Day

Wednesday 16th July 2025 Perivale Park Athletics Track

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Our annual Greenford High School Sports Day is on Wednesday 16th July 2025. It will be taking place at Perivale Athletics Track for all pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9. Pupils will be expected to make their own way to the venue (map, directions and bus routes are on the back of this letter). Pupils should arrive at the Track for 9:00am and the day will end by 2:15pm. We start at a slightly later time to avoid too much congestion on the buses. Students will be dismissed from Perivale at 2:15pm where they will make their own way home.

Pupils will be representing the school on their travel to and from the track so we will be expecting perfect behaviour throughout the day and whilst they travel. Most members of Greenford High School staff will be present throughout the day so there will be plenty of supervision.

During the day, your son/daughter will be participating in some athletic events as well as watching and cheering on their fellow pupils. A reminder that this day is a compulsory school day and every pupil in years 7, 8 and 9 is expected to be there for the whole day.

Pupils will be allowed to wear their own sporty clothing, based on a colour of their form, but should take the weather into account.

  • Pupils in ‘M’ can wear something BLUE.
  • Pupils in ‘T’ can wear something RED.
  • Pupils in ‘G’ can wear something GREEN.
  • Pupils in ‘W’ can wear something YELLOW.

If the weather is sunny, pupils should bring sun-cream, plenty of water and a hat. Likewise if the weather/forecast is cold or wet, please bring the appropriate clothing/items, e.g. waterproof jacket.

Pupils must bring their own packed lunch for the day. If your son/daughter has a Free School Meal entitlement, lunch will be provided. There are no provisions for lunch at the centre so pupils are advised not to bring any cash with them.

Year 10s on Work Experience: Some lovely feedback!

Dear Greenford High School Team, Year 10 Head of Year

I hope this message finds you well.

I am writing to express our sincere gratitude for the four students who joined our school this week for their work experience placement – Abhinaya, Ivan, Tyrice, and Aayush. They have been an absolute pleasure to have, and we were truly impressed by their commitment, professionalism, and positive attitude throughout the week.

Each of them demonstrated a strong work ethic and genuine enthusiasm. They supported our pupils wonderfully, from assisting on a Year 4 school trip to helping with PE sessions and playing a vital role during our very busy summer fair. Their initiative, independence, and willingness to get involved with both staff and pupils, as well as parents, were exceptional.

They were polite, confident, and showed excellent manners at all times. Their presence made a real impact, and they will certainly be missed by both staff and children alike. It may have only been a week of work experience, but their contribution was meaningful and memorable. They are a real credit to Greenford High School.

Please do pass on our thanks and appreciation to each of them – they truly stood out, and we hope this experience was equally valuable for them.

We would be delighted to welcome more of your students for placements in the future.

Warm regards,
Regards

University of West London Visit

In line with our whole school vision, focusing on student achievement, development and aspirations, we continue our partnership with ‘Aim Higher London’ (AHL).

The Aim Higher programme aims to:

  1. Meet the needs of learners, their parents, and staff.
  2. Provide access to impartial outreach opportunities for learners, parents, and staff.
  3. Develop innovative activities which raise awareness of Higher Education (HE) and the different routes into it.
  4. Raise expectations and increase access to and participation in HE
  5. Complement and signpost to existing CEIAG and outreach opportunities across London Higher Education Institutions (HEI)

That said, we took  year 8s to the University of West London on Wednesday 2nd July- they were absolutely brilliant!

Last week we received an email telling us how our students made us proud in the community:

Dear Greenford High,

My name is Jen Lock and I am the Manager of Smith's Farm Community Centre in Northolt.

Last weekend, Saturday 28th June, I was running a community event. I want to acknowledge the fantastic work several of your students did to help the event run smoothly.
The event was a 1960s party held all day for families and people to come together and have fun as a community. The weather was extremely hot, and we had a big BBQ running too. There was so much to do and, after being let down by others, it looked like an impossible task to achieve what we set out to do.

However, several of your students came together and saved the day for us. Without being asked, they took the initiative and worked so hard to make the day a success. They suffered the heat and helped with the BBQ. They served food to members of the public; they dealt with money and acted for grown-ups. They work so well as a team, looking to where help was needed, and I didn’t hear negative comments from any of them all day. They were willing to help and deal with members of the public in an excellent manner. I’m so proud of these boys, they have shown what kind of caring an positive community members they are. I would be so happy to have them join us for future voluntary work in the community and enjoyed this experience of working with these boys immensely.

Without them being prompted, I witnessed them helping elderly people to move about, holding them to give support, opening doors and being polite.

It was wonderful to see this next generation volunteering in our community in such a positive way. Nothing was too much for them, and they worked till late helping with carrying equipment, tidying things away, asking what more needed to be done. With the heat and constant running around, it was a long day and very tiring, but these boys were amazing. I hope your school will acknowledge their achievements and that both you and their families are equally proud of them as I am. I believe this positive behaviour needs to be acknowledged and rewarded.

Earlier this week, two of our year 8 students who went to Ravenor Primary presented to year 5 and 6 students along with their parents, to talk about their experiences and how they have been successful at GHS.

Well done Kishoth and Legend.

Their mums were so proud of them!

Art at GHS:

Our new Head of Art, Ms Colson emailed the ery 7 team  the following:

'I want to give a massive SHOUT-OUT to my class 7z/A1 for the work they produced in our Art lesson.

I’m so proud of them, for having courage, being responsible, showing compassion, being resilient, having a sense of community.

I’m looking forward to many more wonderful Art lessons with them all'

Well done Year 7s!

Welcome, Year 6!

Our lovely year 7s welcomed year 6 and their parents to GHS.

We are supporting a university research study by hosting two workshops  for parents of teenagers aged 14 -16. They are being held at YEF office (W13 9NB) on Wednesday 9th July 2025 10am – 12pm and Wednesday 16th July 2025 10am – 12pm.

They are looking specifically for parents of teenagers aged 14-16 , with particular interest in those who have:

  • Experienced mental health difficulties (e.g. anxiety/depression)
  • Are neurodiverse
  • Experienced difficulties with money within their family recently
  • Experience of the care system and/or
  • Are from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic background

They want the same parents attending both workshops. Parents will receive a gift voucher from a choice of retailers (e.g. Love-2-Shop) at the rate of £30/hour. If they participate in both workshops that’s a total of £120. Childcare and travel renumeration can also be discussed if it is a barrier to participation.
