Friday 20th November 2025

From the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

We will be having our annual November occasional day tomorrow on Friday 21st November, and we hope that students will use this as a time to rest and recharge and also catch up on a little bit of work that they may need to do.

We look forward to welcoming students back in on Monday 24th November 2025 at the usual time of 8:30am.

I have said this a lot lately, but I do want to reiterate that students have been absolutely brilliant since September, and we look forward to this continuing until the end of term.  This is a combination of students understanding the importance of excellent uniform, working hard in lessons and  following our simple school rules.

If there is anything to work on, a minority of students need to get better at getting to school on time and I ask for your support in helping students to always be here on time, aiming to arrive by 8:25am at the latest.

Many thanks, as ever, for your support.

Mrs M Pye

Headteacher

How to get the most out of Interim 1

To keep you updated on your child’s academic progress, you will be emailed interim reports three times per year, or four times if your child is in Y10 or Y12.

Of course, we’ll discuss these grades in school, but parents’ input is also vital to ensure that students take on board the information and act on it.

So please take time to discuss every interim report with your child, starting with interim 1 which is arriving now or in the next few weeks.

Reports contain the following:

  1. Attainment

The grade your child is currently achieving is based on their most recent assessments.

From Y8 onwards, we use GCSE grades which range from 9-1 (with grade 9 being the top grade) and as they progress through school, these grades should improve; at A Level, students are graded on an A-E scale.

  1. Attitude to Learning (A2L)

This is graded using the following criteria (and colour-coding):

  • 1: Excellent (green)
  • 2: Very Good (green)
  • 3: Satisfactory (amber)
  • 4: Requires Improvement (red)
  • 5: Very Poor (red)

You are also informed in this column if, in any of their subjects, there is a persistent Homework concern (with the letter ‘H’) or a serious classroom behaviour concern (with the letter ‘B’).

Please praise and encourage your child when their A2L is positive.

Similarly, please help them to reflect on where their A2L needs improvement and support them in arriving at strategies to address this.

You’ll also see attendance data – anything below 96% will impact negatively on their progress.

Finally, there is information about Behaviour Points – please have a serious discussion with them if they have any – and Character Points, which are always worthy of celebration, so please congratulate your child about them.

Thanks for your support – it really makes a difference – and please contact your child’s form tutor or their relevant subject teacher if you have any specific questions about their reports.

Remembrance Day at GHS:

On Tuesday 11th November, we held a two-minute silence to think about those who gave their lives for peace. Our form tutors delivered a session with students to remind them about why this is held every year.

We are running a Year 11 Parent workshop for selected students to show them what effective revision looks like for their GCSEs. This will take place on Monday 1st December 9.30am to 10.30am.

Invitations will be sent out in due course.

Year 7s joined City Harvest Festival led by Ms Ali – making an impact on the lives of hundreds of Londoners. See below the result of all their efforts!

Well done to Year 7, the year 7 team and Ms Ali!

Parent Support:

Dear Parents,

Raising teenagers is one of the most challenging — and rewarding — stages of parenting.

As our kids grow into young adults, they often struggle to articulate what’s going on inside. This month, we’re highlighting 10 important things teens wish their parents knew but often don’t know how to express.

Thank you for being a dedicated parent.

Your presence matters more than you know. Sometimes we could all do with someone to talk to.

If you would like to meet Kavisha Dharia for a confidential and non-judgemental chat about you, your child, or any other worries, they are available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9- 10am.

You can call/text 07785798759 or email them kavisha@schoolscounsellingpartnership.co.uk
