Community Connect - March 2026

Dear Parents and Carers

I am delighted to share with you our latest termly round up of some of the amazing things your children have been involved in.  Highlights for me include our students being part of a promotional video involving the influencer Big Zuu, our wonderful aspiring chefs and the fact that our students came second in the Lego League competition, a tough computing competition that takes place on a Saturday.

There's far more to see, so please do scroll down and read on.

Have a lovely break,

Mrs M Pye

Post 16 Update

It has been a vibrant and productive term for our Post-16 students. From rigorous academic milestones to inspiring community leadership, our senior students have truly stepped up to the challenge.

Academic Focus & Ambition

The first half of the term was marked by a series of pivotal mock examinations for both Year 12 and Year 13, alongside several key BTEC assessments. Following the recent interim reports and parents' evenings, there is a tangible "motivational buzz" across the Post 16 floor. It is wonderful to see students in both year groups buckling down with renewed focus and clear ambition as they head into the next phase of the year.

Leading the Way: GHS Community Passport

Our Year 12 students have shown incredible spirit through a flurry of community-minded initiatives. They have become invaluable mentors to the lower school, offering their time and expertise through:

  • Academic Support: After-school tutoring, reading programs, and in-class lesson assistance.
  • Guidance: Delivering insightful presentations and sharing advice.
  • Peer Support: Providing lunchtime playground supervision and mentorship.

Enrichment & Beyond the Classroom

Beyond their studies, students have enjoyed educational trips to The Barbican Centre and Keats’ House in Hampstead.

The variety of student-led clubs and societies continues to flourish, showcasing the diverse interests of our cohort. Whether it’s the intellectual rigour of the Debating Society, Lit Soc, and Law Soc, or the enduring popularity of Med Soc, Badminton Club and Chess Club, there is truly something for everyone.

University Success & Future Steps

Year 13 students are currently working exceptionally hard as they approach their final submissions and exams. This year, we are proud to share that over 270 UCAS applications were submitted, resulting in a wave of impressive offers from prestigious Russell Group universities. We look forward to seeing even more success stories as the summer term approaches.

Meanwhile, the journey begins for our Year 12s, who will start their own UCAS process in the first week after the Easter holidays.

Sports Update

Fixtures galore this term as our basketball, netball and football leagues reach their conclusions.  The football teams continue to fight on a number of fronts, the netball teams have been busy balancing league fixtures and tournaments and the basketballers have produced some fine displays.

Honourable mention to our table tennis players in Y11 who went up against some of the country’s top players in the West London championships and produced some wonderful performances.

Academically, GCSE PE students have been undertaking their practical exam and can be incredibly proud of their efforts.

Lego League Competition

In early March, we took a team of amazing students to Bechtel Engineering in Chiswick to participate in the regional finals of the First Lego League Competition against 9 other schools. This event is dominated each year by private schools, but GHS threw a spanner in the works this time round!

The students are marked on the following:
- Robot Wars (programming of a Lego robot)
- Innovation project (inventing something new)
- Robot Design (looks and effectiveness of the robot)
- Core Values (teamwork, supporting others etc.)

In ALL areas, we came 2nd, which is a massive achievement and usually enough to win, but this year someone just edged us out of the top spot, leaving with an overall 2nd place finish.

The biggest takeaway is our innovation project (a prototype design for a material detecting camera for Archaeology) has been recommended to the Archaeology Society for review, which has never happened in the history of the regional finals.

Congratulations to Aseem, Scarlett, Arshpreet, Zayn, Harnoor, Akshayinie, Ramisa, Bidushi and Daksan, who did the school, STEM, and each other proud.

Aspiring Chefs at Greenford

Our Year 10 Food students recently attended The Chefs' Forum Hospitality Taster Day at West London College. Working alongside top local and national professional chefs, our pupils gained a fantastic hands-on insight into the fast-paced world of the UK hospitality industry. A truly inspiring day for our future culinary stars!

During the day, GHS students took part with other schools in the making the Best Burger Challenge – burgers had to be made from scratch, and our students won! Huge congratulations to them.

Music Competition

Greenford High School students won a prize for the third year in a row at Ealing Music Service's secondary school music competition, Encore. With six schools competing and only three prizes available, the students performed with confidence and professionalism, representing the school perfectly amongst strong competition. A huge well done and thank you to all the students involved and Ms Bristow for working with them and preparing for the event.

Library Update

In January, we were lucky enough to be invited to the reopening of Greenford Library, now a Community Hub. Some Year 7 students enjoyed a book reading by the author Sam Copeland, saw some musical performances from local artists, and had a tour of the library. Our students were a credit to the school!

A reminder that pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for their library loans, and they can do this by logging into our library catalogue. From here, they can check which books they have on loan, see when they are due back, and can reserve books. If you have been sent an overdue book email, please ask your child to return their book to the library as soon as possible.

E-book library

As well as having a well stocked school library, we also have a great eBook library, called Wheelers. The eBook library link can be found here. All pupils will have been emailed their usernames and passwords, but if in doubt, they can email ghslib@greenford.ealing.sch.uk to check. Please do encourage your son or daughter to borrow books from the library before the end of term, and to keep reading over the holidays.
