From the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

It's just a few weeks now until Year 11 and Year 13 exams and we are in the 'final push' for securing success. A lot can be achieved through positive thinking and we encourage you to remind your children that they can do it - they just need to remain calm, focused and committed!

You may be aware that the Department for Education have issued new guidance which makes it clear that mobile phones should not be used in schools. This guidance is in line with our existing policy which does not allow the use of phones in school. Phones should always be out of sight and we will confiscate them if they are taken out during the school day. Please support us by remembering that if your child needs to call you, they can do this via the school office, not by using their personal phone.

Mrs Pye

Supporting your child during the exam season...

We are running lots of support sessions in school around supporting students during the next few months. Parents and carers can do their bit too - look out for Ms Henderson-Barnes' Year 11 newsletter each week, on the website, and here is a link to some mental health support that can be put in too.

Letter from the police

This week we have been sent a letter from our local police officers about how to report a crime, if need be, and how to keep your children safe on line. Please see here for more information on this. They have also sent us a link on how best to apply for a zip card for your child, which can be found here:

More Chess success! - 2 of our teams went to Harrow School last Friday to compete in the Regional Finals. Our Greenford A and B teams ranked 7th and 14th, respectively. An absolutely brilliant run from both teams in our first official tournament and all players should be immensely proud of themselves.

Parental Ambassadors - we have 2 Parental Ambassadors now working with the school, Mrs Roble and Ms Sierkowska, with the aim of building stronger relationships between Greenford High School and our community. Look out for more details about both in our next edition of Parent Connect, along with a questionnaire that will go out to parents. In the meantime, if you would like to contact them, here are their addresses:

Mrs Roble -  jroble@greenford.ealing.sch.uk

Ms Sierkowska - msierkowska@greenford.ealing.ch.uk

Behavioural updates

1) Break and Lunch - we are changing some of our break and lunchtime routines. If there are groups of students being silly and/or unsafe during break and lunch, they will spend the next week of break and lunches with senior and pastoral members of staff, and will not be able to go to choose lunch in the canteen. Instead, lunch will be brought to them.

We are pleased to confirm that the vast majority of our students behave in a sensible, respectful and mature manner, and we expect these changes to impact on a small minority of students. We hope you understand that in sanctioning this small minority of students, this will help to make lunchtime better for those students who are repeatedly making the right choices.

2) Truancy from lessons - if students are not going to their lessons, they will be collected by a senior member of staff or a member of their Year Team and kept out of circulation for the rest of that session. They will get an IE day and we will phone parents. If they truant again during the day, they will then get a suspension. And, if they walk away from staff at any point, they will also get a suspension.

3) Behaviour Policy - there have been some updates to our Behaviour Policy. Please look at the updated policy on the website, here, paying particular attention to our updated Home-School Agreement.
