From the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

It's hard to believe that this week we have welcomed our new Year 6s for their Common Induction Day, met new parents and carers and also waved goodbye to Year 11 during their Prom!

We have had a few queries from parents about who to contact in the event of issues affecting their children, so I wanted to remind you that in the first instance, you should contact your child's Head of Year (details of these can be found further down in this newsletter). We live in a complex world with lots of pressures on young people and lots of unhelpful distractions such as social media and phones. If you have any concerns about your child as we head towards the Summer, please contact your child's Head of Year. We are also taking this opportunity to remind you about our protocols around bullying, so that you are clear on the steps that we take as a school if bullying is reported. Please also see this info further down in the newsletter.

A reminder to please monitor your child's phone use, especially in the evenings.  Most issues that arise in school begin outside of school via social media.

Many thanks for your support in this matter,

Mrs Pye

Goodbyes and hellos...

It's been a busy week this week at GHS, with farewells to our lovely Year 11s, who  came in for their last day today, and welcomes to our new Year 7s who will be joining us in September. Both the Year 11 Team and Transition Team have been busy making these key moments in our young people's lives as smooth and as memorable as they can be. And, we would also like to thank all our parents and carers for their support too!

ARP Music Workshop

We also had a visit to our students in our ARP, over in I Block, across the different year groups, that was also a huge success. Many thanks to Ms Jassal, Mr Oag and their respective teams for organising this. It was brilliant to see the students in action!

More activities for Year 8...

On Monday 22nd July, Year 8 will take part in Safety First- a carousel event run by the emergency services - the ambulance, firefighters and police. They will attend a range of sessions on important topics including road safety, youth violence and mental health and wellbeing. This will build on the learning that KS3 students have already completed this year on first aid, knife crime and emotional wellbeing, and it promises to be an interesting and informative end to the year.

Careers Information

Mr Halsey, our Head of Careers, has passed on some information about some events that are coming up:

1) Careers Expo event taking place this Saturday - this is a free event and very useful for both parents and children. If you would like to find out more information, please visit the website at www.stepupexpo and visit the Schools Page;

2) A West London Careers Hub event, together with the Berkely Group and West London College, on Wednesday 3rd July, at West London College, 17:00 - 19:00. More details will follow on our website very soon...

An Update on Character... Over 300,000 Character Points have been awarded this academic year with a continued approach to rewards, including postcards, positive phone calls home and reward trips all ensuring that our students are celebrated.

Our Protocols and Procedures around bullying

We would like to remind our parents and carers that bullying, in any form, is not tolerated at Greenford High School. Any incidents of bullying are reported by staff and picked up by our pastoral team. Sanctions will then be put in place for repeated incidents of bullying and students take part in a series of bullying workshops, in order to change behaviours moving forwards. Sanctions will become more serious if behaviours continue to cause harm and/or distress. This may include suspensions from school, or in very serious cases, permanent exclusions.

We also have an extensive pastoral team in place to support our students who may be the victims of bullying - if you have any concerns at all about this, or any other issues that may be affecting the well-being of your child, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. Contact details can be found in the section below.
