From the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we draw towards the end of term, I wish to thank you for your support of all that we have been doing here at GHS.

I wish all of our community who are celebrating Eid this weekend and on Monday a wonderful celebration, and also wish everyone a good break from school when the holidays finally arrive at the end of next week.

Raising Achievement Day (RAD)-Friday 4th April 2025

Letters inviting parents and carers regarding Raising Achievement Day were sent out last week. Please ensure you book appointments to meet your child's form tutor.

What is the purpose of Raising Achievement Day?

  • To meet with your child’s form tutor to discuss their current attitude to learning and attainment.
  • To raise any concerns, you or your child have and get the right support put in place.
  • For your child to set SMART targets to help them achieve and reach their full potential.
  • An opportunity for your child to reflect in the presence of a family member and their form tutor.
  • To raise the achievement and aspirations of our young people.

You may want to discuss the following questions as a family, prior to RAD?

  1. Which subjects is your child putting the most amount of effort in? Why?
  2. Which subjects need more attention? Why?
  3. Is your child proud of their interim?
  4. Which subjects does your child enjoy? Why?
  5. Are there any homework (H) concerns highlighted in their interim?
  6. How many character and behaviour points does your child have? Is this a fair representation of what has been happening at school?

KS3 Targets for the rest of the academic year:

  1. A subject-specific target (guided by departments).
  2. To join an extracurricular club.
  3. To develop and grow a GHS character strength (Compassion, Community, Courage, Responsibility and Resilience).

KS4 Targets for the rest of the academic year:

  1. A subject-specific target.
  2.    A revision technique target.
  3.  To develop and grow a GHS character strength, such as resilience in exam technique.

We look forward to meeting with you on Friday 4th April.

Chelsea's Story provided an opportunity for our year 9 pupils to see the choices Chelsea has made and how she might have chosen differently.

London College of Music Comes to Greenford

This week, students studying BA Contemporary Performance at University West London came to Greenford High to perform their story, ‘Rewritten’, to Year 7 and Year 8. This is a programme run by the London College of Music, and we were excited for our students to be able to experience this.

“Rewritten” is a story about society represented as a paper puppet, tasked with protecting a magical journal that holds the collective experiences of humanity. The journal comes under attack by five powerful biases, each personified as a character led by the “status quo.” Using a magical pen, the biases dive into the journal’s stories, attempting to rewrite them and weaken society in the process. The puppet must find a way to stop them from distorting the truth. Can it prevent biases from altering the stories that shape us? How can we reclaim our narratives when they are influenced by bias? This performance blends live acting, puppetry, and projections to explore the impact of bias on our lives and the ways in which society can challenge it. It promises to not only entertain but also inspire critical thinking and discussion amongst students.

On Netflix’s Adolescence: Is the Internet Raising our Kids?

'Mums and dads across the UK are being urged to watch Netflix's new crime drama, Adolescence. The series touches upon the gut-wrenching way social media can influence youngsters amid the 'manosphere' trend, with parents encouraged to speak to their children and teens as it could save a life.'

‘The four-episode programme follows the Miller family, whose lives are torn apart when their 13-year-old son Jamie is arrested for stabbing a female classmate to death after being influenced by online misogyny.

The drama has gripped audiences with its sobering portrayal of how social media and misogynistic influencers can impact young boys.’ Daily Mail

Please read the full article for the key takeaways and have a discussion with your child about some of the dangers around mobile phones and social media.

GHS Medicine Conference

The first-ever GHS Medicine conference was a roaring success last week.

To have over 100 aspiring medics and dentists in one room was a real joy. It was also so positive to not only see 40 students from Cardinal Wiseman, William Perkin & Dormers Wells in attendance but, also, how favourably our students compare to their Ealing peers. I am naturally a touch biased, but I think ours shone.

Huge credit goes to Ms Haines for organising - the feedback was unanimously positive. Over half of the attendees (from across 4 schools) gave the event a perfect 10/10 score... With 90% awarding it an 8+/10. That is the kind of feedback we dream of.

Coffee Mornings

To support our families and students, we like to host coffee mornings so that parents, students and staff can connect and find all the tools they need to be part of the Greenford Community.

Last week we hosted our coffee morning for our parents of students who were new to the school. Here we discussed how we support our students and families to make a great start to Greenford High School.
