From the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have just heard from the Department for Education that our Progress 8 score is at +0.68 which means that, on average, our GCSE students last year achieved more than two thirds of a grade higher than their expected outcomes across all of their subjects! This is something to really be celebrated, and positions us once again as a highly successful school, in the top group of similar schools nationally.

So much of this success is down to our expert, experienced teachers, but it is also a result of the interventions we put in place, especially for Year 11 and Year 13 students.  If your child is part of Studio 11, please ensure that they attend, and do everything that is asked of them.  Regardless of what year group your child is in, please download our Satchel One app so that you can also see what independent work your child should be doing - this also makes all of the difference! See login instructions here.

Showcasing our School

In the last 2 weeks, we have run 2 very successful open evenings - one for our new Year 6s coming into the school and a Post 16 open evening for Year 11 who wish to stay on Post 16. Thank you to all staff and students who have showcased the school so brilliantly.

D of E Expedition

We are so proud of our group of explorers who have successfully undertaken their Duke of Edinburgh expedition last week. Fortunately, the weather was great and they all did a brilliant job of camping out under the stars and navigating their way across the countryside (without using their phones!).

We have lots of opportunities for extra-curricular activities such as these at GHS and encourage all students to get involved.

Week A or Week B?

A & B weeks alternate throughout the year, including holidays.

We have calculated that alternating the weeks throughout the year works out better to ensure an even spread of lessons, except for the final half term (in June) when we return on Week B. If you're unsure, check the website here.

Aim Higher at KS3!

This year, we have invested in the services of a company called Aim Higher who will be working with groups of Year 8 and Year 9 students to support with aspiration and work with UK universities to organise visits and workshops so that they can set their sights high!

We will also be using the company to provide talks and assemblies for whole year groups, and hope that this will inspire many of our younger students to follow in the footsteps of our many success stories at GHS.
