From the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back after what I hope was a lovely break for those celebrating Eid or Easter.

This term we continue with our focus on ensuring that students are their very best GHS selves and as such, we are continuing our push on excellent uniform and conduct.  We are particularly keen to ensure that students do not wear trainers, and as communicated prior to the holidays, we will be issuing 15 minute lunchtime detentions for students who continue to wear trainers.  We understand that shoes can be expensive and can offer to purchase shoes for families who are unable to afford them.  There are also some tips below for reasonable places to purchase shoes. At this point, I also remind you that hoodies and snoods are not school uniform and should not be worn.

I am pleased to announce that in a few weeks' time we will welcome a new Deputy Headteacher, Mr Balu, who will be joining us. Mr Balu has a wealth of pastoral experience and will continue to ensure that behaviour standards at Greenford are outstanding.

Mrs Pye

Mental Health Support at this important time of year

This year we have supported our Year 11 cohort with specific exam stress support strategies led by our Clinical Psychologist. Year 11 have had a number of sessions to help them look after themselves at this key time - have a chat with them about those strategies and how they are feeling.

Other organisations that we can recommend supporting your children.

https://youngealingfoundation.org.uk/projects/details/circle-caf%C3%A9 - use this link for Circle, which is a hub space and café that offers support for young people in Ealing who are at, or near crisis point with their mental health.

https://www.youngminds.org.uk/- this link is for Young Minds, which provides young people with the tools to look after their mental health. They give young people the space and confidence to get their voices heard and change the world we live in.

If you have concerns about how your child is coping in the run-up to exams, regardless of what year they are in, please contact your child's Year Team.

EXAM TOP TIPS

Here are some key bits of information from a couple of our Heads of Department:

PE - Use The Everlearner as part of your revision.  Watch the videos on topics you struggle with.  Pause it, take notes, use the bank of questions on the site.  It’s an incredible resource, take full advantage.

Modern Foreign Languages - Year 11 students will have their GCSE languages speaking exams from Monday 29th April till Wednesday 8th May. Students have access to resources on the year 11 drive and in their books. Parents and guardians could support their child to prepare for this exam by:

- hold up a flashcard with the question in the target language

- encourage your child to produce an answer, speaking for at least 30 seconds at a time

PLEASE REMEMBER TO LOOK AT YOUR CHILD's GOOGLE CLASSROOMS - THERE WILL BE ALL SORTS OF KEY INFORMATION ABOUT PREPARING FOR EXAMS!

The timetables for this year's exams can be found on our website - look here to see when your child's exams will take place.

Higher Education Fair

On Friday 19th April, 40 universities and employers visited the school to provide guidance and inspiration for our Year 12 students as they begin to plan their post-Greenford futures. It was a fantastic event - many thanks to all who took part!

Where to get school shoes

School shoes can be an expensive purchase, so here are some places that you can find a pair that should not be too costly:

Shoe Zone - there are branches in Hayes, Southall and Wembley, where acceptable school shoes can be picked up for a relatively low cost.

Primark - this is also a good place to find reasonably priced school shoes, with branches in Ealing Broadway, Wembley, Harrow and Hounslow centre.

TK Maxx - it is worth checking these stores, to see if they have got any in stock. Again, the nearest branches are in Ealing, Wembley and Harrow and a branch at Greenford Retail Centre.

In addition to the above, any of the big supermarkets also stock school shoes, and for those who prefer to shop online, have a look on Amazon. If you are still having issues purchasing a pair of school shoes, please get in touch with your child's Year Team.

RNT Daily wear Boys School Shoes ...
