From the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been a pleasure to return from half-term to such polite and hard-working students. I always feel that the autumn term is particularly crucial in terms of learning in high school, and so I urge you to keep up good attendance and send your child in every day. Last week we had a wonderful mock interview day with lots of employers coming in to provide this experience for our students. The feedback about our students' attitudes and conduct was outstanding. It was also wonderful to greet some of our ex-students, one of whom I taught back in the early 2000s!

Year 11 mock exams have started - good luck to all of our students who are studying hard.

Mrs M Pye

Headteacher

Year 13 Subject Evening

Last half-term, we had our first subject evening of the year. 207 parents/ carers and students attended!

There was a lovely energy and buzz in both the dining hall and assembly hall as teachers updated parents on student progress. The feedback will help parents understand what their child should be doing over the next few months to excel in their journey at GHS.

  • We will be celebrating anti-bullying week during the week of Monday 11th to Friday 15th November.
  • Students will receive an assembly from Mr Harvey, who oversees anti-bullying within school.
  • Students will have form time activities focused on anti-bullying and the theme of “respect”.
  • Students will be allowed to wear odd socks to school during the week to support the cause.
  • We have had several students who have completed anti-bullying workshops this year with Mr Harvey where they learn about the types of bullying and how this impacts the victim.

Laptop provision

  • If your child has a SEND (Students with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities) or receives FSM (Free School Meals) and needs a laptop to work from home, we can help.

  • The SEND team are currently distributing laptops to students from Year 7-11.

  • Please inform your child’s year team if you require help with a laptop. We will always prioritise Year 11 students due to GCSE’s.

On Wednesday 20th November 4:00pm-6:30pm, year 7s have Tutors evening.

Year 7 tutors will discuss the first interim with parents and give some feedback as to how the students have settled into year 7 at Greenford High School.

This is an opportunity to encourage students to look at the wider aspect of school.

Here is a typical structure for the 10-min meeting:

1. Overall, settling into form-have they made friends? Are they actively taking part in form time activities?

2. Interim-character points, behaviour points and A2L (attitude to learning). Which subjects they're doing well in and where can they focus a bit more?

3. Clubs they could attend to be part of the community.

4. Answer any questions parents may have and how we can support you.

Parents can also complete a survey so that we can always continue to move forward.

Parents will have an opportunity to meet our Local Authority Liaise and PHSCE Lead, Ms Soneji, where they can ask questions about the PHSCE curriculum or just meet other parents.

Please can you start talking to your child about the Tutors Evening so they are prepared. They will be doing some work during form time to help them reflect on the start of year 7.

Overall, the year group have been excellent and this is a time we can really celebrate those successes.

More details about how to book appointments have been sent specifically to year 7 parents via their email addresses and students will receive a letter this week.

Southall Community Alliance are really pleased to share a short film about a street event we arranged called the 'I Love Southall Mela'. The event took place in Southall Green, outside Southall Manor House on 28th September and included a range of arts and craft activities, a steel drum band and street karaoke. This street Mela was funded by Ealing Council.

The film was shot on analogue 16mm film using a Bolex H16 Reflex by Artist Filmmaker Mahenderpal Sorya. The camera used was previously a British Pathe news camera used to capture news stories around the world in the 1950s and 60s

The 'I Love Southall' Mela film is complete and now live on the SCA YouTube channel.

Here is a link to the film, which we hope captures the local enthusiasm for art and creative activities:

We are delighted to be delivering the Winter 2024 Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme in Ealing.

The HAF programme provides funded holiday provision, including healthy food and enriching activities, for children and young people in school years from reception to year 11 who reside in or attend school in the London Borough of Ealing and are in receipt of benefits-related free school meals (FSM), or who are vulnerable and would benefit from a HAF place. Please note that primary pupils receiving the universal free school meals offer are not eligible for the HAF programme.

Winter 2024 HAF

Ealing’s Winter HAF programme will run in the Christmas school holiday on:

Monday 23 December 2024

Monday 30 December 2024

Tuesday 31 December 2024

Thursday 2 January 2025

Friday 3 January 2025

Throughout Ealing, HAF provisions will be offering a wide range of free activities as well as a healthy meal. Children and young people can attend for a maximum of 5 days over the Christmas school holiday.

Vulnerable Children & Young People: Applications Open Wednesday 6 November 2024

We are able to offer a limited number of HAF places to some vulnerable children and young people who would benefit from attending HAF provision but are not in receipt of benefits-related free school meals.

Professionals who are working with families who they feel would benefit will need to complete an online referral application form to apply for them to be able to access the winter HAF programme. Please complete a separate form for each child you are referring.

Applications open on Wednesday 6 November at 9am and will close on Tuesday 24 December at 12 noon. We advise that you complete the application as soon as possible to be able to secure an eligibility code and HAF provider placement. Please note that vulnerable places should not be used for childcare.

Promote to Eligible Families: Booking System Goes Live Wednesday 13 November 2024

Eligible families should have received an email with booking details and their allocated HAF/FSM codes, along with a HAF postcard from schools this week. If you are working with an eligible family, please encourage them to book their HAF place.

Our activity providers’ booking information and FAQ will be available through the ‘Book an Activity’ tile on our webpage.

HAF Booking support will be unavailable from 25 to 29 December 2024 and 1 January 2025. Please check the booking site for individual HAF provider opening hours over the festive period.
