From the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a wonderful term we have had!  Thank you, as ever, for your support as parents and carers.  All that it remains for me to say is that I wish you all a very happy festive period and a wonderful new year and we will see you all in January!

Our Brand-New Canopy!

Students said that the canteen felt small and needed more space to socialise, so we built a canopy which is enjoyed by all.

It lets in light as well as keeps us sheltered from the rain and cold. It is an amazing addition to the school.

  • Attendance, what can you do to help?

-Establish good bedtime and morning routines, such a breakfast in the morning, checking if your child has their equipment for the day.

-Using the student  planner is also useful to help them prepare for their lessons the next day.

-Ensure your child arrives at school on time. This encourages habits of punctuality and lessens any possible classroom disruption. If your child arrives after the attendance register has closed without a good reason, this will be recorded as an ‘unauthorised’ absence for that session.

-All absences must be reported to the school for each day of absence (our Attendance Policy explains the school’s expectations and procedures).

-If you know or think that your child is having difficulties attending school, you should contact us. It is better to speak to us sooner rather than later, as most problems can be dealt with very quickly.

-Monitor your child’s mobile phone usage. It is becoming increasingly common that students are using their phones for large parts of the evening, impacting their sleep routine. Perhaps set some time-limits to support with this.

Year 8 Parents Evening

Thank you to all our students and families who attended the parents' evening last week. The conversations between staff and students are crucial in knowing how we can help students take ownership of their learning and how to progress.

To inspire students to start thinking about the future, we are working closely in partnership with Aim Higher and local universities so that students can start asking those vital questions now- it's never too early!

Year 7 Social Media Awareness Evening Thursday 9th January 2025

Dear Year 7 Parents,

We understand that parenting can be a joy but also has its challenges, especially when it comes to Social Media. For this reason, we are inviting all year 7 parents to attend a Social Media Awareness evening on Thursday 9th January led by Ms Nayyar.

Please keep this date in your diary. More information about the timing will be emailed after the Christmas holidays.

Coffee Mornings

To support our families and students, we like to host coffee mornings so that parents, students and staff can connect and find all the tools they need to be part of the Greenford Community.

Last week we hosted two coffee mornings....if you would like to be involved, keep an eye out on the Parent Connect and your emails.

SEN Coffee morning

Well done to our brilliant SEN (Special Educational Needs) department who led a very successful coffee morning. This has helped both students and parents in preparing for their upcoming assessments.

In-Year Admissions Coffee Morning

At Greenford, we understand just how hard it is to start a new school, but to start mid-way through a year is even more challenging for families. After feedback from our parents and students, we will be running our 'In-Year Admissions' coffee morning once a term. We aim to invite parents of all the new students so that we can help them feel part of our community.

Each coffee morning will recap over the last one, and we will act on feedback so that we make this meaningful for all those who attend.

If you missed the last one, do not worry, here is the link for you to click on to find out what was shared:

Our Amazing Students!

It is so lovely to see some wonderful year 8s playing together, socialising and learning some skills in the canteen during break:

And whilst the year 8s were playing cards, year 11s were preparing for their mocks. It was inspiring to see their dedication-they arrived at school in the dark at 7:30am to prepare for their mocks! Well done boys!

Winter Concert-What a Way to End the Year!

Our winter concert had something for everyone. The hall had a lovely buzz with families coming to enjoy and support the staff and students taking part. A huge thank you to the Music Dept led by Mr Oag.

We had duets, soloists and bands performing along with our student and staff choir.

Parents commented:

“Superb”

“Lovely”

“Brilliant – it takes me all to get ready, and I am so glad that I made the effort to come and support my grandson. Is there anywhere I can leave a review?”

To end the night, we had our dol players and bhangra dancer:

Southall Community Alliance

Our senior prefects took part in a local networking event to meet representatives from other Southall schools to look at how we can support our community. They were inspirational and did us proud!

Thanks to Mrs Packman who accompanied the trip-she spent over 20 years in Southall, so a cause close to her heart!
