Raspberry Pi Competition

Category Winners!
Our post 16 team (R2-Pi2) made it to the finals of the Raspberry Pi Competition and were category winners!
The theme was 'Building a Positive Human Future', and our team used this remit to create a device which supports individuals living with memory difficulties. This achievement reflects the outstanding effort and commitment of the students involved. They put in many hours, including a full day working together off-site, to bring their project to life. Developing both voice and face recognition features was a significant challenge, and it required a steep learning curve.
The final event took place Google London HQ on the 1st of May.
Mr Oseku says of the event: "It was an incredibly educational and inspiring experience for our students, with judges and officials that included senior leaders from the tech industry and top universities. The range and quality of the projects on display were truly impressive."
Before announcing our school as the winner, the lead judge—who is also one of the directors of Google Cloud—had this to say about our product.
"This is a case for supporting individuals living with memory difficulties. So, anyone that's been affected by Dementia or Alzheimer's, anything like that, it's just really hard. So, anything we can do innovation-wise to make lives easier for them, less scary, more easy for them to remember their loved ones, and, most importantly, for them to not feel unsafe in their own homes or in a new care home, so in your environment. It was solving a real problem, which we really, really, really thought was fantastic. It provided seamless support for using face and voice recognition.
It was about the facial recognition and then even providing people with memory loss with memories.
I thought that the voice commands, the strong use of Python, all your data sources was really, really strong, and it was portable, which was brilliant for those people who would use this."
Our students were outstanding—engaged, well-behaved, and thoroughly professional throughout. We returned with a trophy and a cash prize of £1,000
