Pastoral Care and Student Wellbeing

At Greenford High School, we understand that academic success is inextricably linked to personal wellbeing. We have a specialist - and large - pastoral team to ensure that every student navigates their Post 16 journey with confidence, resilience, and support.

The Year Team

Overseeing the academic and pastoral support for each cohort are the Head of Year, Deputy Head of Year and Learning Manager. This leadership team is dedicated to fostering a culture of high expectations, academic excellence, and mutual respect within the Sixth Form.

The Head of Year focusses on the holistic progress of the entire year group, ensuring that the school is 'Ambitious for All.' Working alongside them, the Deputy Head of Year provides an additional layer of support. Together, they act as the senior advocates for our students, providing the leadership necessary to navigate the complexities of Post 16 life while ensuring that every individual feels seen, heard, and challenged to reach their full potential.

Learning Manager

Our dedicated Learning Managers oversee student attendance, and punctuality. As our Learning Managers do not have a teaching timetable, they are uniquely positioned to offer immediate, high-impact support whenever it is required.

  • The Home-School Link: They serve as a vital bridge between the school, external agencies, and - most importantly - parents and guardians.

  • Highly experienced: Each with over 20+ years in education, they offer a rich and wide skill set and can offer tailored support.

Form Tutor

Every student in Year 12 and 13 is assigned a Form Tutor for their two years in Post 16. As the primary point of contact, the tutor plays a pivotal role in a student’s development:

  • Specialist Guidance: Tutors possess expert knowledge of the Post 16 landscape and the diverse progression routes available after leaving GHS.

  • Professional Advocacy: Tutors will author the references for UCAS, degree apprenticeships, and employment.

  • Partnership: We encourage students to build a relationship of mutual respect with their tutors, keeping them informed of any changes in personal circumstances to ensure continuous support.

Intervention Manager

To ensure no student falls behind, our Intervention Manager is on hand to supervise independent study in the LRA and monitor both academic performance and intervention programmes.

  • Targeted Support: The year team identifies students who may be struggling with the rigour of Level 3 study and implements bespoke intervention plans.

  • Collaboration: Parents are kept fully informed of any intervention strategies to ensure a unified approach to achieving the best possible grades.

Specialist Services: Careers and Counselling

We provide targeted professional services to meet individual needs:

  • Impartial Careers Advice: Our on-site Careers Service provides a permanent office for drop-in sessions in Post 16, offering expert guidance on university applications, apprenticeships, gap years, and employment.

  • Post 16 Counselling: We employ the services of experienced professional counsellors, providing a private and safe space for students to discuss personal or emotional challenges.
