The Roadmap: Your UCAS Application Journey

Applying to university is a major milestone in your personal development. At GHS, you are supported through every stage of the UCAS process by a team of experts who know exactly how to make your application stand out.

Year 12: Exploration & Foundations

Your journey begins in our Futures classes; a dedicated weekly class for every Key Stage 5 student to plan their next steps.

  • Building Your Profile: Engage with recommended reading, attend guest lectures, and consider the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) to sharpen your research skills.

  • The Experience: We encourage you to apply for summer schools, university taster courses, and explore international scholarship opportunities.

  • The Launchpad: During the summer term, we pause the timetable for two days to focus entirely on your UCAS application. You will attend our Higher Education and Apprenticeship Fair, featuring over 40 universities and employers.

Year 13: Application & Success

In your final year, we focus on refining your choices and perfecting your application.

  • The Personal Statement: Receive bespoke guidance on writing a 4,000 character statement on your academic and personal growth.

  • Strategic Deadlines: We operate on an accelerated timeline to ensure you are ahead of the competition. Applications for Oxford, Cambridge, Medicine, and Dentistry are completed by October, with all other applications finalised and submitted by December.

  • Parental Partnership: We keep your support network informed through our UCAS advice evenings and coffee mornings, ensuring everyone is empowered to help you succeed.
