Our Curriculum
In education, the ‘curriculum’ is broadly defined as the ‘totality of pupil experiences that occur in the educational process’.
The intent of the curriculum matches many of Greenford High School’s core aims. In essence, we believe that the curriculum should enable all young people to become:
-
Ambitious learners who make progress and achieve both academically and also more widely in all other areas of learning.
-
Respectful, responsible, community-driven individuals who make a positive contribution to their local area and beyond.
-
Confident young people who are able to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives.
-
Aspirant individuals who enjoy learning; learners who are curious and interested in their own passions and their next steps in life.
Our aims include:
- Providing a broad, varied and exciting curriculum that leads to deep knowledge, academic achievement and access to pupils’ preferred destinations.
- Cultivating a strong enjoyment of learning with engaging and meaningful learning experiences in the classroom.
- Providing extensive wider opportunities and work-related learning experiences, enabling pupils to engage in school life to the full.
- Promoting our character strengths of community, courage, compassion, responsibility and resilience, ensuring all pupils are valued for who they are, and develop a strong sense of belonging to our community.
- Ensuring that all pupils, regardless of starting point or need, are empowered to achieve highly, through equal access to the full curriculum and strong foundational knowledge and skills.
Key Stage 3
At Key Stage 3 the school offers a broad and balanced curriculum, with students studying a core EBacc offer of Maths, English, Science, Languages, Geography, History and Computer Science alongside PE, Music, Design & Technology, Art, Drama, RE and PSHE.
There is extensive provision and, where needed, intervention through years 7 & 8 for the development of core numeracy and literacy skills, particularly in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
Pupils are set according to ability in Maths, English, Science, Languages and Humanities from Year 7, providing opportunity to target support for less able students and ensure stretch and challenge for the more able. Maths and English have additional staffing resources allocated at KS3 to allow for smaller classes.
