Attendance

Students need to attend school every day. If there is a medical issue preventing them from attending, parents/carers must phone the school on each day of absence on 020 8578 9152 ext. 3007, stating the name, year, tutor group and the reason. Parents and carers can also email attendance@greenford.ealing.sch.uk.

If your child is absent, and we do not receive a message as to why they are absent, you will be sent a truancy call at some stage during the morning. It is imperative that you respond to this, otherwise your child’s absence will be unauthorised. The decision to authorise an absence is entirely at the school’s discretion.

Greenford High School has an Attendance Officer who will contact parents and carers if need be, and who works with families where there are concerns about attendance. There is a very clear link between attendance at school and maximising attainment, and, thus, the school is committed to ensuring that students attend every day.

We also remind families that holidays should be taken in school holiday time, and that the school does not authorise Leave of Absence. Only emergencies or exceptional circumstances will be considered following an interview with an Assistant Headteacher - Supporting documentation will be required. A Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) of £120 will be issued by the LEA, per parent, per child, for any unauthorised leave. If the FPN remains unpaid after 28 days you may be prosecuted for your child’s absence from school. If you need to request leave of absence during term time, please complete and return the Parental Leave of Absence form below at your earliest convenience, before flights or travel arrangements are booked.

Leaving Greenford High School

In the event that you decide to take your child out of Greenford High School it is a requirement to complete a school leaving form, in advance of the leaving date.  A copy of this form can be found attached below. This will enable us to arrange for the transfer of records to your child’s new school. If you are leaving the country we will require proof of travel tickets and confirmation of starting at the new school abroad. We are required to notify the Local Authority of your decision if your child is not joining another school based in the United Kingdom. In the event of any queries, please contact the school to discuss further.
