Summer school 2021

Greenford High School ran a one week Summer School during August 2021, attended by 240 students. The Summer School was run by an external company who both organised the logistics and delivered the camp, using the funding provided by the Department of Education. The week was very successful and students covered a variety of modules in Maths and English, through a structured programme of study, as well as building on their skills of confidence and resilience through Drama and Sport. Along with providing lunch each day, all the equipment was provided for students in a goody bag consisting of stationary, workbooks, drawstring bag, scientific calculator and reusable water bottles, the company also assessed all of the students and managed the marketing and registration of the scheme.

There were two highlights of the week: students were also taken to Thorpe Park for the day to help build on the new friendships they had made and to celebrate their hard work. And, there was a graduation ceremony on the last day, at which each student who attended was presented with a PC Tablet. The week was staffed by both those employed by the company and some of Greenford High School’s own staff, who between them ensured that not only were high quality lessons delivered across the board, but that the children were safeguarded through First Aid provision and trained Child Protection staff.

All in all, Summer School was a great success and it has been a pleasure to see the impact of this initial week in helping our Year 7s settle after a very turbulent 2 years of education.
